gal: uredinia lijken op die van M. betulinum, maar de sporen zijn ook aan de top bestekeld. Bovendien vormen de cellen rondom de pore waardoor de sporen uit het uredinium vrijkomen een duidelijk uitgetrokken spitsje. Aangetaste bladen zijn ingerold.

gall: uredinia like those of M. betulinum, but the spores are spinulose also at their apex. Moreover, the cells around the pore of the uredinium through wich the spores are released form an long acute point. Infected leaves are curled inwards.
