Zonder kennis van de waardwisseling zijn aecia op Clematis niet tot op de soort te determineren.
gall: Spermogona honey-coloured epiphylloud. Aecia hypophyllous, cupulate; peridium whitish, recurved and frayed; oranege-yellow, on discoloured, eventually galled spots on the leaves, petioles and stems.
Only if the hostplant alternation is known, a specific identification is possible for aecia on Clematis.

Uredinia roestkleurig, tot 1 mm, lang door de epidemis bedekt; urediniosporen met 8 verspreide kiemporen; tussen de sporen staan enkele hyaliene, aan de top verdikte paraphysen. Telia beiderzijdig, ook op de stengel, zwart, door de epidermis bedekt; zw worden gecompartimenteerd door rijen bruine paraphysen. Teiospoen tweecellig, omgekeerd kegelvorig, ietwat ingesnoerd, aan de top afgevlakt; wand glad, alleen aan de top wat verdikt; steel kort, brown.
gall: uredinia and telia never forming long stripes. uredinia rust coloured,op to 1 mm, long covered by the epidermis; urediniospores with 8 dispersed germination pores; between the spores some hyaline, apically thickened paraphyses. Telia amphigenous, also on the stem, black, covered by the epidermis; they are compartimentalised by rows of brow paraphyses. Teliospores 2-celled, ob-clavate, somewhat constricted, flattened at the tip; wall smooth, apically somewhat thickened; pedicel short, brown.
