De opvallende kleur van de larve kan ermee samenhangen dat de larve aan verpoppen toe is, maar is misschien ook veroorzaakt doordat de larve geparasiteerd is (de kleine parasietlarve is rechtsboven te zien).

The striking colour of the larvae may be a sign that the larva is about to pupate, but may also be caused by the fact that the larva is parasitised (the tiny parasitoid larva is visible at right).
