Een bijzonderheid van deze soort is dat de larve, vlak voordat hij zich gaat verpoppen, aan zijn voorzijde de epidermis tot op de cuticula wegvreet, zodat er een halfcirkervormig venstertje onstaat. Later, als de vlieg uit het puparium komt zal dit venstertje openklappen met zijn kopblaas.
A peculiarity of this species is that the larve, just before pupation, eats away the epidermal tissue in front of him, up to the cuticula, leaving a semicircular window. Later, upon emergence, the fly will open this window with its ptilinum.
