mijn De mijn begint bij een ovaal eitje aan de vlakke zijde van de top van de naald. Vandaar uit holt de larve de naald voor ongeveer een kwart van zijn lengte uit. De hele mijn, behalve de larvekamer is met frass gevuld. De volgroeide larve verlaat via een gaatje onderaan in de mijn, en vormt een cocon tussen een paar samengesponnen naalden. Uitsluitend middels de pop te onderschieden van O. piniarella.

Apart from the larval chamber, the entire mine is filled with frass. The full grown larva leaves the mine by an opening made at the end of te mine, then forms a cocoon between a few needles that have been spun together. Only the pupa enables discrimination from O. piniarella.
